F for Father (premise)

Bert was just minding his own business while working at his father's restaurant when he finds out that someone beat the eating challenge. The victor turns out to be a mysterious stranger named Edwin who was just in the neighborhood as he was trying to visit some old family friends of his. As Bert and Edwin befriend each other, Bert finds out that Edwin had tragically lost his wife and son during an incident many years ago and is seeking to find closure on their whereabouts as they disappeared in the process. Wanting to make him happy, Bert agrees to help Edwin find out what happened to his family and see whether they were still alive or not. As he and Edwin try to find his missing family, he discovers a secret that will change his life forever.

The Protectorate (premise)

Ever since she could remember, Ania always found herself being the target of bullying of some kind. However, it was her older sister Sasha who was always there to protect her from her tormentors, especially after their mother passed away. As a result, they maintained a close sisterly relationship because of it. However, when Sasha had to graduate from high school, things became complicated as she and Ania could no longer be as close as they usually were and that her absence would make it easy for Ania to be targeted by bullies again. As a result, Sasha made sure to have someone watch over her while she was away.

Enter Damian, a somewhat intimidating yet gentle-hearted man who is close friends with Sasha and agrees to protect Ania for her. Though Ania appreciates his concern and protection, she misses her sister and wishes to spend more time with her. As Ania and Damian grow closer over time, their relationship goes from simply being friends to being something more akin to lovers.

The Snow White Princess and her Suitors (premise)

1986 Japan, Tomoe Shimotsuki is a straight A student who is known for her beauty, skills and intelligence which has made her desirable for many male students while causing envy among the females. However, she herself is uninterested in romance nor does she intend to lose her virginity to anyone. As a result, she decides to get rid of her persistent suitors by matchmaking them with other girls. At the same time, she and her sister Tsubaki Shimotsuki have to deal with upcoming exams, yakuza, family drama and more in the city of Tokyo.

Himiko and the Tanuki of Sado Island (premise)

Himiko was on the run due to having been forced to become a prostitute in the red light district where she was born and raised. Wanting to find a safer place, she ended up stowing away on a ship that was being sent to one of the many islands within Japan. However, after a storm ends up causing her and the crew to get shipwrecked, they end up encountering a rather large clan of people residing there only to find out that they are actually tanuki. While their leader Danzaburo is kind enough to let them stay until they can fix their ship, Himiko finds herself unwilling to leave due to not wanting to go back to being a lowly prostitute. As a result, she ends up staying in Sado Island and gradually learns to adapt to the mystical world of yokai while also discovering more about her past and who she really is.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Julien Larue

Julien Larue is the father of Audrey Larue and the husband of Brielle Larue. He and his wife serve as secondary tritagonists but also play a huge role in the story, especially near the end. He is a professional photographer though he prefers to take pictures of his family and friends.

He has blond hair though it is more on the straight cut and dirty blond shade compared to his wife and daughter's blonde hair and he has blue eyes that are a slightly deeper tinge. He has a fair skin tone and a slim body though he does have some muscle at least according to his wife.

He cares for his family and friends very much and extends that to Ambroise to the point where he too will risk his life to save him as well.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Brielle Larue

Brielle Larue is the mother of Audrey Larue and the wife of Julien Larue. She and her husband serve as secondary but nonetheless important tritagonists to the story, especially near the end. She is a fashion designer who is also best friends with Miranda and is close with Timotheos, Barnim and Ambroise as a result.

Like her daughter, she has blonde hair though hers is slightly more wavy and a tad bit shorter than Audrey's. She also has fair skin, blue eyes and naturally red lips that accentuate her beauty.

She is polite and friendly with a bit of a teasing edge to her when it comes to her friends and family. However, like most of the characters, she is capable of being fierce and serious when things get tough. She is especially protective of Miranda as she helped care for her when Miranda was grieving for her husband's death while also threatening to kill Elio should he bring harm to Miranda and the Blumenthals. Like most of the characters, she can tell that her daughter has a crush on Timotheos and is actively rooting for her to get together with him.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Barnim Dirk

Barnim Dirk is the grandfather of Timotheos Blumenthal along with being the biological father of Miranda Blumenthal. He is one of the main protagonists along with being a secondary tritagonist to the story. He is known for having a jolly sense of humor while also being a dog lover himself hence why he has at least 4 dogs (5 if counting Aldo). However, when the moment gets serious and someone threatens his family and friends, he turns into a ruthless and merciless hunter who will not hesitate to brutally attack or even kill anyone if necessary.

He is the oldest character out of the main cast and is probably the most dangerous other than Elio (who is a professional hitman) as he is proficient with knives and firearms (especially hunting rifles) and will not hesitate to attack anyone if they cross the line. Normally he is very friendly and jovial to the point of teasing and befriending others. However, when things get serious later on the story, he becomes a lot less friendly and more strict as he takes control of the situation by preparing the others for the final battle. He is very protective of not only his family but his dogs as well as he even got into a fight with a Nazi when his first dog was murdered by him. He absolutely despises Nazis and anyone who is willingly associated with them and becomes very insulted when someone accuses him of being a Nazi because of his German heritage. 

Though Barnim is retired and lives outside of Amable, he still visits from time to time and was also born there like many of the characters. He also secretly helped people escape from the Nazis and was part of an anti-Nazi resistance group that was active during WWII in Europe until the war finally ended.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Miranda Blumenthal

Miranda Blumenthal is the mother of Timotheos and the foster mother of Ambroise while also being the granddaughter of Barnim Dirk. She is one of the main protagonists of the story and is a major character within the plot. She is also the biological daughter of Barnim Dirk though she took on her husband's surname "Blumenthal" after marrying him. She works as a nurse at the clinic within the town of Amable and is a single mother who ends up being a widow thanks to her husband's death. 

She has short black hair that is cut into a bun though it is described as being somewhat puffy and has fair skin with brown eyes similar to her son. She also has a slim figure and usually wears a dress or skirts during the summer season. 

Though Miranda is usually friendly and polite, she has a bit of a darker side when it comes to those who truly anger her or make the mistake of hurting her family and friends, which she inherited from her father. Though she will not kill anyone, she is not opposed to attacking in self-defense or even wounding her enemies to the point of incapacitating them for good.

Title Change

I have both good news and bad news. Good news is that my story will be on WebNovel soon. The bad news? I have to change my book title as there is already another story called "Tension" so I had to change mine so that it won't get mistaken for another unrelated story. So here's the new title cover:

Journey to the West: Taming of the Monkey King (premise)

Sun Wukong never expected anything less but praise and worship from all who encountered him. Even during his pilgrimage to the West, he still had a bit of an ego that he loves to flaunt whenever he can. However, it isn't until he meets a woman named Lanfen, who is one of Guanyin's many attendants, does he gradually soften his character. In this alternate take on the story of Journey to the West, Sun Wukong learns about romance for the first time in his life and strives to become a better person for the sake of Lanfen. While the story will follow the same plot as the main story of "Journey to the West", there will be some differences thanks to Lanfen as it focuses more on Wukong's growing feelings for her with some of the exploits that happened during the pilgrimage being alluded to or briefly mentioned.

Lanfen is an original character for the story who serves as the love interest of Sun Wukong and her presence helps him improve his behavior. While she serves as an attendant of Guanyin, she herself was originally a human woman named Mrinal who was born in India from a family of untouchable status (who were considered the poorest of the poor). Despite her low status, she sought to make everyone happy and show compassion to others. She spent her days helping her family and neighbors grow and preserve food while also making sure to take care of the plants and animals living nearby. She also possesses an uncanny ability to talk to animals and befriend them, especially monkeys. Unfortunately, an evil Raksha demon (known by the names "The Dark Snaked One" or alternatively "The Ringed Demon of a Thousand Corpses") appeared and slaughtered everyone in her home and forced her to watch as he did it. Even worse, she tried to reason with him only for him to cruelly mock her attempts at redeeming him and saved her for last when slaughtering everyone she loved. As a result, Mrinal ended up dying but not before she was laid right next to a statue of Guanyin herself as she looked up to her and wished to emulate her as much as she could. Guanyin heard about Mrinal and rewarded her by reincarnating her soul and allowing her to stay in her realm so that she may serve as one of her attendants and help tend to the plants and animals that resided there. Mrinal accepted this position and was given the name "Lanfen" as a sign of her rebirth. When Wukong heard about the suffering Lanfen went through during her past life, he was both sympathetic and furious as he had grown fond of Lanfen and couldn't believe that she was killed so brutally and by a demon nonetheless.

When Sun eventually meets the Raksha who did this to her during his pilgrimage with the others, it becomes a personal battle between him and Raksha. His calm yet furious demeanor surprises the others as he kills the demon while stating that this was for Lanfen. Once he kills the arrogant and cruel demon, the others confront him on why he took this so personally, Sun Wukong is forced to reveal Lanfen's backstory while unwittingly confessing his feelings for her. They encourage him to pursue her (with Zhu Bajie being the exception at first) and he eventually proposes to her with the blessing of Guanyin, the Buddha, the Jade Emperor and even Wukong's old teacher Puti Zushi. However, Sun Wukong decides to marry Lanfen after he finishes his pilgrimage with the others as promised. Once he does finish his journey, the crown that restrained his power is finally removed by Guanyin as Lanfen requested it due to seeing that Sun Wukong had learned his lesson. The story will end with a Buddhist style wedding between the monkey king and Lanfen as they are finally able to be together forever.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Audrey Larue

Audrey Larue is one of the main protagonists (or at least is one of the tritagonists) of the story while also serving as a friend/love interest to Timotheos. Like Timotheos, she lives in the town of Amable and was born there like many of the other characters. She and Timotheos have been best friends since childhood and have continued to remain friends to this day. She is also 15 years old and even attends the same school as Timotheos, which comes in handy when Timotheos ends up missing classes due to his grief over his father's untimely death and prompts Audrey to help him catch up on his missing classes. 

Audrey has had a crush on Timotheos for years but was too afraid to tell him due to her fears of him only seeing him as a friend and potentially ruining their friendship in the process. It isn't until the events of "The Brocade Baby" does Audrey eventually gain the courage to confess to him. Like Timotheos, she too holds a great fondness for little Ambroise and is more than willing to help babysit him when Timotheos and the others aren't available. She works at the HausWart store on Tuesdays as her part-time job though she has more free time compared to Timotheos who works at Gringore at least 2 times a week.

I imagine her as having blonde hair that is described as almost golden as it is long, flowing and straight while usually being tied up in a red ribbon. She has bright blue eyes, fair skin and a slim build. She would definitely take after her mother in both appearance and personality, with elements of her father as well. 

Audrey is usually very spunky and courageous while also being polite and courteous towards others. However, when it comes to her feelings for Timotheos, which are very obvious to everyone, she becomes very shy and soft-spoken. Given that she used to have a crush on the fictional character Johan from the "Johan and Peewit" series, it is due to the fact that she was starting to have feelings for Timotheos and wants to be more than just friends with him. Ironically, when they were younger, whenever the townsfolk would tease them for being a "couple" the 2 kids would exclaim that it wasn't true. 

FictionPress Stories

I think the earliest inspiration that I had for writing came from my interest in fanfiction and how they influenced writers everywhere. I was also inspired to write by my love for movies and TV shows, especially if they were animated. At the time, I thought my dream job was to be an animator or a cartoonist of some kind given that I admired the artwork that was displayed on the screen. Given that I used to draw a lot when I was a kid, I thought it was my destiny to become a person within the animation department. It wasn't until I started coming up with story concepts and plotpoints of my own did I realize that my dream was to become a writer, a storywriter/author to be exact, and decided to pursue that instead. 

Some of my stories that I will be writing are available for reading on FictionPress as that is where I decided to start writing some of my prototype/short stories. These stories will be expanded in the future though I wish to take things slow and start one at a time so I don't get exhausted or overwhelmed.

Funny thing about my stories is that some of them were written during my university years in my Creative Writing Classes as I wanted to try my hand at creating the main plots for my stories before I go all out. I will be creating more in the future for my FictionPress account. However, there is a special pet project that I am planning in the future and may post in this blog rather than on FictionPress or even WebNovel as it is a very important project for me.

The Tragedy of Lady Hyegyeong (premise)

Taking place during the Joseon Era of Korea's history, back when it was comprised of 3 kingdoms, this is the tale of a troubled princess who was the wife of the cruel and unstable Crown Prince Sado. Her life would end in a tragedy but not before being told through the eyes of a humble servant who was a witness to the various events revolving around the princess along with having an impact on Joseon's history. 

I was inspired to write this story considering that I am Korean myself (South Korean to be exact) and I was told that our family was distantly related to Hyegyeong who was in fact a real princess that lived around that era. I have always been fascinated by historical fiction and drama so I wanted to do my own take on it but it will be told from the perspective of fictional characters that will serve as an "audience surrogate" for the stories. In a way, it will have elements of Forrest Gump as the story will have its own plot but will feature characters meeting real people that once existed in the world (or at least in the past). I am also planning on doing other historical fiction stories as well in the near future.

Comet Princess (premise)

In the year 2030, a group of mysterious alien life forms known as "Overseers" invaded the Earth and proceeded to nearly wipe out almost all of humanity. With the power to manipulate matter, control the planet's climate and ecosystems while also having the ability to devour any living organism in their path, they began to slowly terraform the planet, destroying many countries in the process. With only half of the continents left on the planet and the Earth being almost submerged in water because of it, the humans were able to unite with each other during these dire times and fight back against the Overseers. While the initial attacks were somewhat easy to deal with (as the humans made use of what was left of the Overseer bodies left behind after each battle), the next Overseer attacks would grow more difficult every time. As a result, a brilliant scientist known as Dr. Graham Seymour was able to create the fighting machines known as "Celestials" that were named after various celestial bodies in space and could be used to combat the upcoming threats that were caused by the Overseers. His daughter, Asteria Seymour is the best pilot and fighter when it comes to using the Celestial machines due to her mysterious ability to absorb Overseer life energy and grow stronger from them. Because of her high kill count and strength, she is dubbed "The Comet Princess" and is famous because of it. However, because Asteria had very limited social interaction with others due to having been raised inside a laboratory for most of her childhood, she comes across as being very cold and arrogant to the point where almost nobody likes her. That all changes when a new recruit named Aera Sano becomes partnered with Asteria and slowly helps her warm up to the idea of making friends while also wanting to find out what purpose she has in life other than simply fighting Overseers. She and her loved ones will have to deal with not only Overseer threats but also internal ones as well as they will end up discovering dark secrets that may or may not cause the end of the human race as they know it.

The Café Client (premise)

Rolando Vitale is just a humble café employee who works at a café shop called "Doppio Drop" and wants to make people happy and welcome. Right across the street is a convenience store called "Quick Work" that he sometimes goes to where he meets a beautiful if aloof woman named Lola. While Rolando and Lola have only talked to each other a couple of times, their lives end up intertwining with each other when Rolando accidentally discovers Lola's secret of being a prostitute who works in the red-light district near their neighborhood. Lola initially becomes terrified of Rolando potentially blackmailing or outing her as a sex worker but he promises to keep her secret. As a result, they develop a sort of partnership that is strictly platonic and not sexual in any way. Despite this, Rolando is curious to know why she works as a prostitute and wishes to help her but her refusal to accept his help makes things more difficult. What secrets does she hide? Will he be able to get her out of her night job?

Also, a character from the Brocade Baby will appear as a guest character for a special cameo. Who is it? You'll have to wait and see.

The Sky Princess and the Gryphon Prince (premise)

In the kingdom of Bahar, Princess Soraya is the heir to the throne until an evil sorcerer named Dahak shows up and demands that her family give him the throne. When they refuse, due to him having betrayed them in the past, he attempts to kill Soraya until she gets saved by a gryphon named Tahir. As a result, Dahak ends up turning her parents along with everyone else into stone statues by draining them of their souls before taking over what is left of the kingdom. Soraya and Tahir are then forced to escape from the sorcerer who vows to find them and destroy them as well. Soraya is then brought to the Sky Monk Sanctuary which is hidden from the rest of the human kingdoms on the mountains where discovers that Tahir is her long-lost brother who was the original heir to the throne until he was turned into a gryphon by one of Dahak's curses. Tahir ended up leaving the kingdom in shame and vowed to never stay in Bahar until he managed to track down the sorcerer and kill him once and for all. Soraya agrees to help with assistance from a female monk in training named Yasica who wishes to join them on their quest. Together, the group will have to brave through a perilous journey that will involve them attempting to find the sorcerer and defeat him once and for all. Throughout their journey they will encounter both enemies and allies through various lands and realms while trying to stop Dahak once and for all.

The story itself is inspired by a variety of Middle Eastern stories along with some Asian and Mesopotamian stories though it is mainly inspired by Persian myths such as the Shahnameh and even Mesopotamian ones such as Gilgamesh. It will also feature creatures/characters from those stories such as Simurgh and Humbaba.

Spiritual Warfare (premise)

Born and raised in a Judeo-Christian family, Jadon Harel was once a happy-go-lucky boy until his parents were murdered by a mugger. When he encounters the mugger again 19 years later, he almost kills him in revenge until he sees that the man suddenly forgets what happened and becomes fearful for his life. The mugger does get arrested and is sent to a mental institution where he is visited by Jadon who demands answers from him. The man reveals that he was visited by a mysterious being who promised him a chance to make him wealthy and not be homeless anymore. But instead, he knocked him out before "hijacking" his body and mind. He couldn't remember what happened but he gradually remembered the horrible things the mysterious person made him do. After listening to the man for a few more hours, Jadon realized that the man was not directly responsible for what happened to his family and was merely possessed by some kind of evil spirit. The man was genuinely sorry for his actions and was more than willing to accept his punishment. Jadon was able to forgive and even befriend him despite the man being a criminal. After that experience, Jadon dedicated his life to helping troubled people as they were more susceptible/vulnerable to demonic possessions and spiritual corruption. He became a pastor of his church and vowed to stop any unclean spirits from tormenting the people in his hometown.

The short story which is currently on FictionPress is basically a sort of pilot, beta or a prototype of the future installments that I am planning for my series. I actually wrote this as part of a portfolio project that I did for my school.

Missus Tutor (premise)

Annalise O'Boyle (or Anna for short) is a humble young woman who is only 22 years old and is currently in her 3rd year studying at Emerald College with only 1 more year to go. Her lifelong goal is to become a teacher and has done some part-time tutoring for younger students as well as having babysat children as a way of gaining experience for her future career. Her life changes one day when she comes across a flyer that is requesting for anyone to tutor their youngest daughter. When Anna accepts the job offer and goes to meet the person who created it in the first place, she ends up meeting a widowed father named Logan Jameson who requests that she help tutor his daughter Amy Jameson on Saturdays around mornings and afternoon to which she is more than willing to do. Anna also meets Logan's oldest son, Andris Jameson who is a lot more aloof towards her due to him still grieving for his deceased mother though his friend, Elaine "Ellie" Sproul is a lot more friendly and personable. What initially started off as a professional if friendly relationship between the young tutor and the widower slowly blossoms into something more intimate if not romantic. Though there are others, especially Andris, who object to their relationship for understandable reasons, the 2 can't seem to stop thinking about each other and will need to go through various trials and hurdles if they can even be together or not.

The story will deal with themes regarding maturity, parenting, loss and the concept of age gap romances as it will be a more realistic take on the usual concept. Nonetheless, there will be a happy ending as it will have Anna and Logan marry each other shortly after Anna graduates and becomes Andris and Amy's new stepmother. There will be a scene involving Logan being present for Anna's graduation ceremony and propose to her once the ceremony is over. There will also be an epilogue involving Anna giving birth to the third member of the Jameson Family whose name will be Aurora Jameson.

Fairy Tale Travelers (premise)

In this crossover series involving a variety of fairy tale and folk tale characters, join Jack and his friends as they travel throughout many realms in search of a cure for the magic harp, who is revealed to be a princess from a lost kingdom. The first few stories will be standalone series involving tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Red Riding Hood and Rumpelstiltskin, Winter White and Rose Red, and etc. but will gradually be interwoven together as part of an overarching story involving the sentient magic harp who is initially part of the Giants. There will be other fairy tales stories that will be referenced or at least alluded to but will only serve as Easter eggs of sorts.

My Second Novel: Tension

Hayley Espinoza is a college student in her first year who is living in a residence that fits at least 4 people. Although she intended to just go about her years focusing on her studies, earning money through her part-time job at the library and making sure to contact her mother, she ends up in the peculiar relationship with Zane Somerset. Zane is considered one of the most popular and well-liked students at the school due to having good grades, a handsome face and a charismatic personality. While he is friendly with her and doesn't seem to have any malicious intentions towards Hayley, she can't get herself to trust him due to an incident that happened during her childhood. In this intriguing story of love (both friendly, familial and romantic), follow Hayley as she goes through her college years alongside Zane while dealing with stalkers, dysfunctional parents and various other obstacles that will get in the way of their budding romance.

This is my second official novel that will be coming soon ad available on WebNovel. It will be my second novel after The Brocade Baby and actually takes place in the same universe though it takes place in Canada rather than Belgium.

The Brocade Baby Character Profile: Timotheos Blumenthal

Timotheos Blumenthal (or Timmy as his friends and family like to call him) is the main protagonist of the story. He is 15 years old during most of the story and is the son of Miranda and Jarem Blumenthal. He is 15 years old for most of the story and becomes very close with the titular baby, Ambroise and wishes to protect him while also dealing with the grief that he suffers from after losing his father in a tram accident. He works part-time at the Gringore Music Store while also being a student at the secondary school that he attends in Amable. His best friend is Audrey Larue and has been friends with her ever since they were children. What he doesn't know is that Audrey has had a crush on him for years and it takes him a while to find out. 

I imagine him as having black hair that is cut short and a little scruffy along with having fair skin with a bit of a tan due to going outside a lot and brown eyes that convey both his innocence and idealism. He usually wears T shirts and shorts due to the story taking place around Summer, or at least around July and August, and running shoes as well.

His favorite comic book series is Astérix and Smurfs as he likes the adventurous yet fun-loving tone the stories convey. He is also a fan of Jean Claude Van Damme along with being a fan of Disney movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. His job at the Gringore store involves stocking the musical instruments, tools and sheets that were often bought by people who were interested in performing or practicing music. He usually works on Wednesdays and Thursdays around evenings (or at least after school) as he wishes to be more productive and help earn money for his mother given that his father had tragically passed. Not only that, he often volunteers to watch over the kindergarteners near his school simply because he likes being around children and has a soft spot for them. 

It took a long time for Timotheos to move on from his father's death, especially since his attachment to Ambroise and reluctance to let him go stems from his inability to move on. Fortunately, his grandfather, Barnim as well as Audrey and even the family dogs are able to help him gradually move on and learn to accept both his father's death and Ambroise's eventual departure.

My first novel: The Brocade Baby

I have written my first novel, which is currently on WebNovel at the moment, and it is titled "The Brocade Baby". It is about a young man named Timotheos who finds a baby left on his doorstep and later finds himself being attacked by mysterious assailants who are after the baby for some unknown reason.
